Direct Aid Program

The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a small grant program funded from Australia’s aid budget. It has the flexibility to work with local communities in developing countries on projects that reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development consistent with Australia’s national interests.

It sits alongside Australia’s longer-term country and multilateral development strategies and, with its wide geographical reach, plays an important role in supporting local community efforts towards poverty reduction across the globe. The program is founded on a set of principles, which include:

• advance developmental outcomes in countries eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA) through projects primarily focused on practical and tangible results. This may include projects that support good governance and human rights, as well as those with a strong advocacy component.

• Full Tuition Fee waiver
• A one-time sum to assist with the expense of books, supplies, and lodging.
• Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE) is a fortnightly payment provided toward the cost of subsistence at a rate determined by the department.
• Students must complete the required Introductory Academic Program (IAP), which provides information on residing and studying in Australia, before enrolling in official academic courses.
• Costs for a single round-trip economy-class ticket taking the shortest route to and from Australia
• Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is provided to cover the scholar’s necessary medical costs for the duration of the award, except for pre-existing conditions.
