Students who receive this international scholarship will not only become more appealing but also professionals in their fields, allowing them to better serve society.

The University of Ghent offers fully funded scholarship opportunities for students. Student Restaurants

Ghent University has a wide range of student restaurants. Staff are also welcome. They are all situated in the vicinity of the faculties. The service and food are of high quality, and the prices are the lowest in town. In our cafeterias, you can order breakfast pastries, sandwiches, salad bowls, and cold dishes (to heat up). In our restaurants, you will find the same offer plus warm dishes. A nice variety of pork, poultry, fish, veggie, and vegan dishes are served every day. All restaurants and cafeterias have a dining area. In the dining area, there is a microwave at your disposal. You can use it to heat up our cold dishes (also halal) or to heat up your own dishes.

Do not forget to bring your student or personnel card with you; otherwise, you must pay a higher price for your food. Ghent University students and personnel pay the price that is mentioned on the TV screens; this is the subsidized price. The restaurants are open to everyone; however, depending on which group you belong to, you pay a different price.

Sport Center

Ghent University boasts a fully-equipped sports center (“GUSB”), with three large and two small halls for indoor activities. There is a 25-meter swimming pool and an instruction pool! Special attention is devoted to sports for disabled students. The university also offers individual support services and counseling for students who are actively involved in top-class sports.

Some of the sports that can be pursued are: aerobics, aikido, basketball, bujinkan bujutsu, cross-fit, condition gym, badminton, running, diving, BBB, handball, hockey, jogging in groups, judo, karate, kayaking, korfball, krav maga, mini-football, five-a-side football, rugby, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, water polo, yoga, etc.

Job Service for Students

First of all, a word of caution. Finding a job as an international student is not easy.
For most jobs, a sound knowledge of Dutch is necessary. Most employers even demand it.

The Ghent University Job Service for Students has developed a job database in order to help students find suitable jobs. However, this database is only available in Dutch. We therefore recommend that you contact the Job Service in person should you decide to look for a student job. They will also offer you valuable advice on your rights and responsibilities. You must always register at the job service.

The employment contract the student receives will indicate the gross amount of monthly wages. The net amount the student actually receives will be less since taxes and social security deductions are withheld.

University Library

Ghent University Library is a network of faculty libraries and the Book Tower, giving access to a broad range of scholarly information and supporting users in finding the right information. Through the catalog on lib. agent. be, you can find, among others:

  • Databases
  • Journals
  • Books
  • Theses

The catalog is freely accessible to everyone. The scholarly sources themselves are mostly restricted to the UGent network. Visitors can make use of the libraries to consult material.

Open Access, or free access to scholarly information, is the spearhead of the university library. That’s why many publications written by UGent researchers are freely available in the academic bibliography, as are many images in the image database. All these collections are made available in the library. Read our disclaimer to learn what you can and cannot do with the data.
