Our Campuses

Depending on the degree you choose, you can be based at our Penryn Campus in Cornwall, St Luke’s Campus in Exeter, or Streatham Campus in London. Both campuses house 22,000 students from more than 130 different countries on lush campuses in some of the most picturesque regions of the nation.

Our Truro Campus is the base for University of Exeter Medical School students studying MSc Environment and Human Health and for a proportion of Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) students during years 2, 3, 4 and 5. It is also the home of the European Centre for Environment & Human Health (ECEHH). The Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building is a health education and research centre based at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital in Exeter.

Primary PGCE

Our Primary PGCE with QTS programmes offer you the opportunity to train to be a generalist primary teacher focussing either on the Primary 5-11 or Primary 3-7 age range. Both programmes, which include significant time in a school setting,  are designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and understanding you need to become a successful primary teacher.  

With both programmes, there are different options depending on where in the South West region you live/are able to regularly travel to.

Programme Content 

Modules are designed to give you the experience of all the curriculum subjects you will be expected to teach for your specified age range (e.g. English, mathematics, science, art, computing, design & technology, humanities (history, geography & RE), modern languages and PE), as well as providing you with the opportunity to explore wider issues in education. All our tutors on the primary PGCE are experts in the field, passionate teachers and passionate about teaching.  Our modules have been co-designed by teachers and the same curriculum is taught at each of the Exeter Initial Teacher Education Hubs. 

Leadership Strand 

Our Primary (5-11) programmes also enable you to select a particular curriculum area to focus on during the year to support your development as a future curriculum leader. You will attend 7 sessions across the autumn term and curriculum areas vary year on year depending on demand but are likely to include Art, English, Humanities, Maths, Modern Languages, Science, Inclusion – EAL, Inclusion – SEND and Inclusion – SEND in special schools.   

Please note, for those training at the Primary (5-11) Somerset/Dorset ITE Hub, the leadership strand offered at your hub location will be Inclusion – SEND in special schools. For those training at the Primary (5-11) North & Mid Devon Hub, the leadership strand offered in your hub location will be Inclusion – SEND.   However, a wider choice of modules will run at the Exeter St Luke’s ITE Hub and will also be available for you to choose from.  

I would recommend the Exeter PGCE because you work with well-informed lecturers, especially when you choose a specialism. They know what they’re talking about and when they have a passion for the subject they pass it onto you easily.

 Aspiring Apprentices

A degree apprenticeship is a fantastic way of receiving a qualification from the University of Exeter without paying tuition fees and having earned a salary for the duration of your studies.

At the University of Exeter, we offer apprenticeships at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level (levels 6 and 7). All apprentices must be employed; you must either be applying to a role with an apprenticeship agreed or must persuade your current employer to support you for the apprenticeship duration. Scholarship Coverage

The University Of Exeter Scholarships 2024 in the UK will cover UK/EU tuition fees and an annual tax-free stipend of at least £14,777 for 3.5 years of full-time study.

Eligibility Requirements

• These will be given to an academically gifted candidate from the United Kingdom or continental Europe who would be unable to study without financial support.
• This prize is made possible by the generosity of a Business School graduate.
• If you are from a non-anglophone nation, you must have an English language level of IELTS 7.0 with no section less than 6.0, or equivalent.
• We’ll ask you to upload your CV, transcript, and, if necessary, an English Language certificate, as well as proof of financial aid obtained for your studies thus far.

• Two letters of recommendation.
